In a race with an epic ending, the Ferrari number 50 driven by Miguel Molina, Antonio Fuoco and Nicklas Nielsen, took the final victory, thus achieving the second consecutive victory for the Italian team at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Miguel Molina becomes the third Spaniard to win the legendary French endurance race. The Spanish driver achieved victory together with the Italian Antonio Fuoco and the Danish Nicklas Nielsen. The race was marked by the constant presence of rain and the intervention of the safety car for more than four hours at night, factors that significantly influenced the development of the race.

A very competitive edition full of emotion

If we leave aside the unjustifiable intervention of the safety car during much of the early morning, the 92nd edition has been one of the most exciting and entertaining editions in history. In the final stretch of the race, Molina suffered a series of problems with the right door lock that forced him to stop in the pits with one hour and 42 minutes remaining. This stop, which was not scheduled, seriously jeopardized the comfortable advantage he had over López, who also suffered an unforeseen spin in the Dunlop chicane, a mistake that left him with no options to win.

With this victory, Miguel Molina joins Marc Gené (2009) and Fernando Alonso (2018 and 2019) as the third Spaniard to win in the main category of this legendary race.

The Circuit de la Sarthe podium was completed with the number 7 Toyota, driven by the Argentine José María ‘Pechito’ López, the Japanese Kamui Kobayashi and the Dutch Nyck de Vries, and by the other Ferrari, the number 51 of Alessandro Pier Guidi , Antonio Giovinazzi and James Calado.

Problems for Fluxá, Riberas, Juncadella and Palou

The rest of the Spanish representatives did not suffer the same fate as Molina. Lorenzo Fluxá, in the LMP2 category, had to retire due to a mechanical problem when he was in a position to fight for victory. In the LMGT3 category, Álex Riberas’ team suffered an accident that forced them to retire, and Dani Juncadella also saw his hopes frustrated due to a mechanical failure, despite his excellent performance.

On the other hand, Álex Palou, driving the Cadillac V-Series R, finished seventh. The Spanish driver ‘teamed’ with the New Zealander Earl Bamber and the British Alex Lynn. A different strategy and problems with the windshield prevented Palou from fighting for the podium, despite having been close in the last hours of the race.
