He National Weather Service (SNM) issued, on Sunday afternoon, a flood warning for several municipalities facing heavy rains after the formation of thunderstorms.
According to the federal entity, the following towns remain under a flood warning:
- Barranquitas, Corozal, Morovis, Naranjito, Orocovis: until 5:30 p.m.
- Adjuntas, Ciales, Jayuya and Utuado: until 5:30 p.m.
- Añasco, Lares, Las Marías, Mayagüez, San Sebastián and Toa Alta: until 5:30 p.m.
The SNM, in turn, issued a flash flood warning for Bayamón and Guaynabowhich will be in effect until 5:30 p.m.
The meteorological agency indicated that in these regions a fall of one inch of rain has been recorded. Likewise, it is not ruled out that the areas receive up to an inch of additional precipitation.
As part of the precautionary measures, the federal entity urged people to avoid crossing or traveling through flooded roads.
Earlier, in an interview with The new daythe SNM meteorologist, Ryan Chambershad indicated that the combination of humidity and the presence of Saharan dust would lead to foggy conditions that could give way to the formation of electrical storms. mostly in the north and southwest of the island.
Added to these conditions is a heat warning issued for municipalities from the west of Puerto Rico to the east, mostly in the coastal areas, and for Vieques and Culebra. This warning will be in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Likewise, the SNM released a heat watch for Monday morning, which will last until the afternoon.
