Max release this Monday June 17 the long-awaited second season of the dragon house. It arrives almost two years after seeing the episode that closed its first batch, and that ended at the top (literally and figuratively speaking).

The prequel to Game of Thrones already attracted more than 10 million viewers in its premiere on the platform, and the aforementioned last episode was one of the most watched in 2022. It is not surprising, since that cliffhanger or “bait” has kept our desire to continue with the story alive for 20 months.

The wait is over and we can now dive back into Westeros, knowing that behind the scripts there is one less showrunner: Miguel Sapochnik – author of several of the best chapters of Game of Thrones like ‘The Battle of the Bastards’ or ‘The Long Night’ – left Ryan Condal alone and negotiating with a George R.R. Martin that is giving approval to fiction.

But before you sit down to watch the new installment, we leave you a review (with some advice) about the first episode of the second season of the dragon house that we already saw at the premiere to which we were invited in Paris –and that we live as fans– of course, NO SPOILERS.

The development of a complex but necessary chess board

The first chapters of the Westeros universe always serve to place all the characters on the chessboard. The numerous names, similar aspects and even new signings are difficult to followso they are essential one or two warm-up deliveries.

However, we recommend that visions the first season before entering the new one, to refresh what happened. If not all the chapters, at least since the seventh which was key in the last movements that the protagonists made.

Once you have them all located, returning to the universe of Rhaenyra and Alicent is a pleasure from start to finish. From the iconic tune, to the locations in which they move, the psychology of each character, the joy of seeing the dragons and the always final goal of sitting in the Iron Throne.

An eye for an eye, two less Targaryens

That same goal that everyone fights for, that of sitting on the Iron Throne, can sometimes deflate a spectator who has already seen too many people struggling for the same thing. For 8 seasons all the protagonists of Game of Thronesand now two more in the dragon house. However, it is worth it.

When there are moments when some interest wanes, because the pace slows down, because the chess board must be explained in detail for greater enjoyment, there is always a script stroke that reminds you that in West Things always happen that will surprise you.

That’s what happens with this pilot episode of the second season, in which everyone they must choose a side: the one of Rhaenyra devastated by the murder of her son or that of Aegon IIimposed by his mother Alicent.

In reality, we are talking about the confrontation of two queens (once again with the underlying machismo that was already felt in Game of Throneswith two women who turn the world upside down while the men are totally innocent, but that’s another story).

So the season starts making it impossible for the viewer to be neutral: you have to get wet, choose between one crown or another, within the same family. Knowing that everything started with an “eye for an eye”, so nothing is going to end well. Like no civil war. And the Seven Kingdoms has a lot of reality.
