Given this, Petro recalled that when Nicolás was born he was imprisoned in La Picota prison for the crimes he had committed when He was active in the M 19, so he could not be accompanying his ex-wife in this stage.
“I managed to spend a year with Katia and Nicolás in Bucaramanga in hiding. I got myself a mattress and I got a playpen, precisely one of those children’s playpens, so that I could be on the mattress. “We slept on the floor,” he noted.
The president indicated that when the M19 demobilized he could not be with Nicolás because he had already established his love life separately: “We didn’t really meet again. He grew up in Córdoba. He studied there. He made the university out of it. We never really had the opportunity to live together. “I didn’t raise him, that’s the reality.”
Later, Petro explains that the link with his son was not reestablished by his will or by his family, but rather that Nicolás wanted to get closer to him when he saw him at the peak of his political career and became interested in following in his footsteps.
