Four days before the Copa América 2024 begins in the United States, the national team Paraguay was imposed by the slightest difference over its similar Panama at the Rommel Fernández stadium in the Central American country, as the last test before the debut of both teams in the tournament.
Panama could not assert its home team and ended up succumbing to a South American team that came out to propose from the beginning and achieved a valuable victory ahead of what will be the Copa América in the stadiums of the American Union.
The Guaraní team took the lead from the 25th minute thanks to a goal from Gustavo Velázquez Ramos that surprised the Panamanian defense in a corner kick. The defender rose higher than anyone else in the corner and headed in with a pass from Matías Rojas to open the scoring midway through the first half.
From the start of the match at the Rommel Fernández, the Paraguayans showed their intention to go forward and that situation did not change after going ahead. Panama tried to close the spaces and defend itself as best it could against the visitors’ siege.
The Paraguayan team regained confidence with this victory a few days after its debut in the Copa América, as it had had two bad results in the preparation games. First they drew goalless against Peru at home and then lost 3-0 to Chile at the National Stadium in Santiago.
With this victory, the Guaraní team arrives on the right foot for the continental tournament where it will begin facing Colombia on June 24 at the NRG Stadium in Houston. Paraguayans and Colombians are part of Group D of the Copa América 2024 where Brazil and Costa Rica complete the sector.
For its part, Panama debuts on Sunday, June 23 against Uruguay at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Both teams make up Group C of the championship along with the host United States and Bolivia.
