Argentine motorcycling is in mourning after the death of Lorenzo Somaschini, the 9-year-old rider who had an accident in Brazil last Friday while participating in a training session for the fourth stage of the Honda Junior 160 Cup, was confirmed. at the Interlagos Racecourse in the city of San Pablo.

“SuperBike Brazil reports, with great sadness and pain, the death of driver Lorenzo Somaschini this Monday (6/17), at 7:43 p.m. The Argentine, born in Rosario, was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo (SP), under intensive medical care and, unfortunately, he did not resist,” Superbike Brasil confirmed through its social networks.

The accident of the Rosario pilot occurred on Friday, on the first day of activity for the competition. According to the organization of the event, Somaschini suffered the fall while driving along the Pinheirinho curve of the legendary São Paulo route and was quickly transferred to the local hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit.

“The SuperBike Brazil organization has provided full assistance to the rider’s family since Friday (6/14), when the Argentine had a fall during the first free practice of the Jr Cup, valid for the 4th stage of SuperBikes Brazil, in the Interlagos Autodromo. As soon as he fell at the exit of Pinheirinho, the pilot was immediately treated on the spot by the medical team in an ICU ambulance,” they explained from the competition.

And they added: “Subsequently, he was sent to the circuit emergency room, where his clinical status was stabilized. After this procedure, the medical transfer was carried out in an advanced support unit (mobile ICU) to the Pedreira General Hospital, where he remained until dawn on Saturday (6/15), following all medical protocols until the transfer to Albert Einstein Hospital.”

Born on July 17, 2014, Lolo became passionate about motorcycling. His father gave him a mini motorcycle when he was 4 years old and there he began to develop in the activity. His debut had occurred on April 13 in the national SuperBike in Buenos Aires during the Argentine Speed ​​Motorcycle Championship. After that he had a second participation at the San Nicolás racetrack, in the format of the Junior Cup division. “My dream is to get to MotoGP, to be world champion,” he explained in an interview that showed all his passion for the world of the motorcycles.

On his Instagram account, called Lolosomaspro, the young motorcyclist had uploaded a publication in the last few hours of some images of the smiling young man and the text: “Fulfilling dreams… First training session in Interlago Brazil preparing for the Junior Cup.” The Honda Junior Cup is one of the most recognized youth competitions on the continent that brings together riders between 8 and 16 years old on 160 cc motorcycles with pedals and handlebars adapted to the size of each young person.

Lolo had been in the news during the weekend of April 13 because he had debuted in the Argentine Superbike. “Since I was four years old. My dad rode a motorcycle, when he was two years old he took me to the supermarket and I started to like it. My dream is to get to MotoGP, to be world champion,” the little boy had told the specialized media Paseo Tuerca at that time. At the national level, the Superbike is the most important category of the Argentine Speed ​​Motorcycle Championship, that is, the competition on the track. There are also Motocross, Rally Raid, Enduro and Speedway categories.

The Rosario newspaper La Capital had interviewed him before that debut: “One day my dad took me to the supermarket to fill up on gas, I don’t remember well, but we took a ride on a 125cc that belonged to my grandfather and I loved it. There he grabbed me and I don’t know how to explain it. I liked it a lot and well… I started to be fascinated by motorcycles and here I am, ready to race,” the little man from Rosario had said there.

Somaschini debuted on April 14 in Buenos Aires of the Argentine Speed ​​Motorcycle Championship and then had a second participation at the San Nicolás racetrack, in the format of the Junior Cup division.
