The Colombian Ecopetrol and the Brazilian Petrobras have announced the start of drilling the Uchuva-2 well, in the Tayrona Block, in the Colombian Caribbean, as part of the commitment to incorporate the natural gas that the country needs to leverage the fair energy transition.

This well, which is an evaluator, will allow the validation of the size of the natural gas discovery announced in July 2022 in the Uchuva-1 exploratory well, located in deep waters (837 meters of water depth), approximately 32 kilometers in line. straight from the coast and 76 kilometers from the city of Santa Marta.

In the Tayrona Block, Petrobras is the operator with a 44.4% stake and Ecopetrol with 55.6%.

Ecopetrol has been working intensively for several months, through an interdisciplinary team, on the consolidation and development of a portfolio of offshore projects that allows obtaining gas to meet the expectations of the energy transition.

Uchuva-1 is considered a very significant discovery for Ecopetrol and Colombia because it confirmed the importance of the Caribbean as one of the main sources of gas for the country.

“Uchuva-2 will allow us to confirm what was discovered and obtain the necessary information about the field for the planning and execution of the connection with the consumption centers, contributing to the country’s supply,” explained Elsa Jeanneth Jaimes, Offshore Vice President of Ecopetrol.
