In the early hours of today, around 8:30 in the morning, a tragic accident was reported at kilometer 71 of the Pasamayo variantlocated in the Pan American Highway north, which left two people dead and several injured. The event occurred when a truck, which was acting as a bus, lost control and overturned in the district of Aucallama.
According to police authorities, the fatal victims were identified as the driver, Eduardo Segundo Alvarado Oré; and the passenger, Gerson Saldívar Bardales Sánchez.
Photos and videos in the area of the accident show the magnitude of the tragedy, showing the truck with license plate BDQ-624 completely destroyed, which quickly mobilized firefighting units to the scene to provide assistance.
The injured were taken to Chancay Hospital by ambulances from Norvial and the Aucallama serenazgo to receive urgent medical attention. The hospital indicated that it remains on alert and has arranged the necessary resources to care for the injured, who were identified as:
- Martín Alvarado Ojeda (33 years old)
- Enrique Alvarado Ojeda (58 years old)
- Juana Bazalar Ramírez de Collantes (49 years old)
- JLC (5 years)
- KCB (10 years)
Preliminary reports indicate that excessive speed and the wet track due to the drizzle in the area could have been the determining factor in this tragic incident. “The driver was speeding when he turned the curve,” a witness told a well-known Chancay media outlet.
One of the passengers, who was able to give his testimony before being transferred in a van from the Aucallama serenazgo to the Chancay Hospital, said that the unit left around 6:30 in the morning with six passengers from the Foundry whereaboutsin the Lima district of Stone bridgeand its final destination was the city of Huacho.
The story of a journalist from the local media TV GO Speaker, who made a live broadcast, gave an account of how the tragedy originated. “Excessive speed would have been the cause of the accident. The occupants were thrown about 30 meters when the vehicle overturned, which flipped about seven times, practically flying through the air. “It is impressive to see parts of the truck scattered on the track,” he said.
Another version, given by one of the survivors, is that the vehicle, upon reaching the descent of the Pasamayo variantsuffered one of its tires exploding, causing the driver to lose control of the unit, who ended up getting lost; this detail would correlate with the tracks left by the vehicle on the asphalt.
The authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances that led to this unfortunate event, while the residents of the area helped turn over the lead-colored truck, which was completely destroyed in the middle of the track.
The family of the truck driver, Eduardo Segundo Alvarado Oréwhose body was left lying in the middle of the track, immediately arrived at the accident area and said that the victim took the bus on the weekends, “as a way to get back on his feet.”
“My nephew knows the route well. Every weekend he went out to earn something, to get resources. He was a good driver, there are no bad or good drivers here. Unfortunately, it was his turn,” said an uncle of Eduardo Alvarado, who avoided identifying himself before the cameras.
It was also learned that the second victim, identified as Gerson Saldívar Bardales Sánchez, a non-commissioned officer of the National Police of Peru with eight years of service and who provided services in the town of Barranca. The cash leaves a girl orphaned.
Through a statement on social networks, the Lima Norte Police Region expressed its regret over the death of non-commissioned officer Gerson Bardales. “We join in the pain of his relatives, may our almighty Lord rest his soul in his holy glory, fly high brother police officer,” he reads in the message.
Due to the fatal accident, traffic at kilometers 70 and 71 of the Pan American Highway north, on the road from south to north, was partially restricted until 1:00 p.m. today, when the bodies of the deceased were lifted by order of the prosecutor on duty and taken to the Chancay morgue, for the legal autopsy. Meanwhile, the damaged vehicle was towed to continue with investigations and expert reports.
