After the disturbing story based on real events in the second installment of Dr. Death, Universal+ presents Dr. Death: Deadly Deceptionthe documentary that reveals the atrocities hidden in the first synthetic organ transplant and which arrives in Latin America this July 3.

Exhausting testimonies and stories of the true story of the turbulent actions of the doctor Paolo Macchiarini, played by Edgar Ramírez (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Girl on the Train) in the second season of the Dr. Death saga, whose last episode premieres the same day, leaving evident the mark and painful precedent that this false professional caused to the field of world medicine.

The 90-minute documentary follows the career of famous surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, who performed the world’s first synthetic organ transplant. In time, it would be discovered that Macchiarini was an international con artist whose web of lies stretched back decades, ensnaring many, including those in his personal life, leaving a trail of devastated patients facing a nightmare.

The documentary will reveal how the charismatic doctor, who performed his groundbreaking experimental transplant surgeries to great fanfare, remained unusually quiet about the fact that some of his patients were dying slowly and painfully, sometimes suffocating when plastic tracheas failed. They worked.

The twisted story of how Macchiarini came to perform the deadly surgeries and continued to do so despite evidence of their danger is the central theme he will address. Dr. Death: Deadly Deception.

The successful Dr. Death franchise premiered its second season focused on this disastrous character last May, with Édgar Ramírez playing the disgraced doctor nicknamed Miracle Man before accusations of research fraud and unethical experiments. Mandy Moore (This is Us) co-stars in this fiction as investigative journalist, Benita Alexander. The series is available on Universal+ and will premiere its last episode on July 3.

The anthology series is based on a Wondery podcast focused on medical malpractice. The first season of Dr. Death starred Joshua Jackson as Texas neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch, convicted of killing 33 patients over the course of his career. The complete series can also be found in the Universal+ catalog through its app, with cable operators in the region or on Amazon Prime Channels.
