According to data reported by the National Energy Secretariat, in May oil production in Argentina reached 693,163 barrels per day, with Vaca Muerta being the main protagonist of this great result. This milestone was reflected in an increase of 0.3% compared to the previous month. In turn, gas production registered record figures of 150.14 billion m3 nationwide. Taking these data into account, as far as 2024 is concerned, the accumulated variation is 19%.
In this context, it is interesting to note that, during the month of May, oil production in Vaca Muerta increased by 0.8%, reaching a total of 366,468 barrels per day, which represents 37% of the national total. For the period analyzed, it is essential to consider that 3,658 active wells were registered in this area, implying an increase of 30 operational wells, compared to April 2024. These two facts reaffirm its position as a prominent player in the national energy panorama and its importance in the Argentine oil industry.
Regarding the distribution of oil wells in Vaca Muerta, the company Vista Energy. It occupies first and second place, with its wells located in the Bajada del Palo Oeste field, producing a daily production of 2,972 and 2,919 barrels per day, respectively. It should be noted that they have also achieved this positioning at the national level. Likewise, Kilwer made itself noticed by occupying third place with 2,227 barrels per day. This well is located in Mata Mora Norte.
As for gas in Vaca Muerta, an increase of 20.5% was recorded, with a total of 77.856 million m3 of gas. It is essential to consider that this figure implies an increase of 34.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. In this sense, the company Pampa Energía achieved first to third place in production with its wells located in the Sierra Chata field, where its production ranges from 726 to 608 m3 of gas per day, respectively. All of them began their activity in February of this year.
In terms of national imports and exports, 410,809 million m3 of gas were imported in May, while exports reached 192,732 million m3, leaving a negative national balance of almost 218,077 million m3.
