A 34-year-old man from Zafarraya allegedly killed his ex-partner, a 20-year-old woman, and his 49-year-old mother-in-law, after which he took his own life. Apparently, he used a shotgun to commit the crimes. His body was found in another house in the town.

The notice reached the Health Emergency Service 061 around 6:00 a.m., and was referred to 112. The case is being investigated by the Civil Guard.

According to this newspaper, these are well-known residents of the town. “This is shocking, we have no words,” said an acquaintance of the victims. The consternation is evident in this small town in the Alhama region, which has declared three days of mourning.

The Government’s sub-delegate, José Antonio Montilla, has reported that the alleged murderer was not listed in the Viogén system and had no previous complaints. He also added that “the relevant investigations are already being carried out to clarify what happened.”

“It has been a tragic day in Andalusia, where, within just seven hours, two women have been murdered by their partners. Everything points to that, although the Government Delegation against Gender Violence has to confirm it,” said the Government delegate Pedro Fernández.

Reactions

The reactions in Granada society and politics have not been long in coming. The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Rodríguez, has expressed his dismay at the serious events that occurred in Zafarraya” and has shown his “strongest condemnation and rejection of sexist violence.”

The President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, has published a post on ‘X’ in which he expressed himself in the following way: “It is shocking just to think about it. A horror. All our love to the families and loved ones of the two women and the mother of one of them who have allegedly been murdered in Zafarraya and Fuengirola due to gender-based violence.”

The Minister for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Andalusian Government, Loles López, has expressed her “overwhelm” by the incident in the Granada town. “Another dark day for a scourge that never ends, that does not understand age, does not understand place and that to combat it requires the unity of the whole society,” said López, who has given all her “support and affection” to the relatives, in a message published on her ‘X’ profile.

The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has condemned the three alleged sexist crimes reported this Saturday in Spain with victims including Zafarraya.

“Fighting this scourge with efficient policies and sufficient resources is everyone’s obligation,” the politician said in a message on the social network X. “Our solidarity with all the victims and their families,” he added.

The PSOE in Granada has finally acknowledged being “shocked and outraged by the macabre event” and has sent “condolences and love to the entire family in these painful moments.”
