In the framework of Pride 2024 celebrations, design and branding studio Toormix has launched “Pride Flows”, an innovative design exploration aimed at reimagining the visual language of LGBTIQA+ symbols. This pioneering project seeks to address the diversity and complexity of identities within the community through a new graphic system.
“Pride Flows” is born from a deep investigation into existing LGBTIQA+ symbols and flags, recognizing their historical importance and constantly evolving intersectionalities. The project aims to overcome the fragmentation that multiple flags and symbols can generate, proposing a unified, adaptable and customizable visual system.
The use of gradients, rather than traditional solid stripes, is central to “Pride Flows.” This approach symbolizes the fluidity and intersectionality of gender and sexual identities, allowing for a smooth transition of colors that reflect the nuanced experiences within the LGBTIQA+ spectrum. The design system simplifies complex identities into two fundamental stripes, offering the flexibility to create personalized representations.
The proposed “Fluid Pride Flag” dispenses with rigid stripes of color, adopting a continuous spectrum that symbolizes interconnectedness and inclusivity. This flag seeks to resonate with a wide range of identities, promoting a unified visual identity for the LGBTIQA+ community.
Toormix emphasizes that “Pride Flows” is not a definitive solution, but rather an invitation to dialogue and collaboration within the community. The project actively engages diverse identities and perspectives to continue evolving and refining the proposed system.
