Tremor of 5.0 shakes Antofagasta and within hours another occurs in San Pedro de Atacama
A series of earthquakes has worried the population of Antofagasta after a 5.0 earthquake at 00:22 and then another near San Pedro de Atacama at 06:58.
A medium-intensity earthquake worried the Antofagasta Region at 00:22 hours, causing power outages in several sectors of the city. According to the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.0 and its epicenter was located 39 kilometers southeast of Antofagastawith a depth of 43.9 kilometers.
Despite the alarm due to its magnitude, the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) reported that the earthquake did not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami on the coasts of the country.
Then, at 06:58 hours, another 3.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded with its epicenter southwest of San Pedro de Atacamaat a depth of 112 kilometers.
