He National Weather Service (NWS, for its acronym in English) in San Juan issued this Saturday a flood warning for the municipalities of Adjuntas, Añasco, Las Marias, Maricao, Mayaguez, Rincon and Utuadountil 5:00 p.m.

Earlier, the entity indicated that a weak tropical wave would move through the local area today, which would produce flooding in urban areas, roads and small streams, as well as isolated thunderstorms.

On the other hand, the NWS issued a heat warning For several municipalities on the Island, valid from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The sectors under warning are: San Juan, Salinas, Carolina, Camuy, Lajas, Yabucoa, Guaynabo, Mayaguez, Dorado, Isabela, Aguada, Manatee, Florida, Guanica, Vega Alta, Patillas, Añasco, Arecibo, Guayama, Vega Baja, Aguadilla, Rincon, Santa Isabel, San German, Penuelas, Toa Alta, Cataño, Bayamon, Toa Baja, Quebradillas, Hatillo, Arroyo, Barceloneta, Trujillo Alto, Juana Diaz, Guayanilla, Yauco, Moca, Maunabo, Ponce, Hormigueros and Cabo Rojo.

“This level of heat affects most heat-sensitive people, especially those who do not have an effective cooling system and/or adequate hydration. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun”, he stressed.

Regarding conditions at sea, small boats should use caution when crossing coastal waters and passages.

“Life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone, particularly on most of the eastern, northern and southern beaches of the islands“, he added.
