Governor Orrego inaugurates Plaza Asunción del Paraguay in San Ramón

“We have to transform abandoned places into places of encounters and family life. This is one of the happiest days of my administration. The symbol of this Plaza is a sign of hope for the city,” the highest regional authority emphasized.

Santiago, June 29, 2024.- This Saturday was a special day for the residents of San Ramón. After 20 years of abandonment, the Governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego, together with the mayor of San Ramón, Gustavo Toro, inaugurated the new Plaza Asunción del Paraguay, which was the scene of femicide, incivilities and crime, in the past.

With an investment of $185 million – by the Regional Government – in green areas, lighting, children’s games and furniture, territorial justice and security were delivered to the families of the commune.

“Recovering the city for the people means putting citizens at the center of what we do. If we want to have a fair and inclusive city for everyone, we have to go neighborhood by neighborhood doing what we did in San Ramón. We have to transform places of abandonment into places of meeting and family life. This is one of the happiest days of my administration. The symbol of this Plaza is a sign of hope for the city,” said the governor of Santiago, Claudio Orrego.-

For his part, the mayor of San Ramón, Gustavo Soto, said that “I appreciate the support of the Government of Santiago. Today we are giving a clear signal that we have recovered public spaces, organized with the neighbors we have defeated drug trafficking. Our commune only has 4% of green areas, so we will continue with projects that provide greater justice for the community.”

The President of Neighborhood Unit No. 13, Johana Riquelme, very excited, recalled all the efforts they made for years to be able to have a decent space for the community. “Today, when we see this restored plaza, we know that all the effort was worth it. “This is our space where our children play and the community can flourish.”

The ceremony was attended by Regional Councilor Carolina Oteiza, the Municipal Council, and residents of San Ramón.
