In the midst of the disaster caused by the breakup of ‘Caregato’ in La Mojana, The Comptroller’s Office announced the seizure of accounts and assets of former directors and contractors of the Ungrd who participated in the reconstruction of the dam.
According to the comptroller (e) Carlos Mario Zuluaga, The responsibility is not exclusive to the questioned former director Olmedo López, who was in charge of the most recent work, but also goes back to former officials who participated six years ago.

“We have ordered that the events of high national impact that took place in the Unit (Ungrd) during the last four years, not just this year and a half, be all transferred to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Comptroller’s Office. By virtue of that, they saw that since last year we suspended the director of the Unit, we were the first entity to speak about the irregularities that the Risk Management Unit had,” Zuluaga said.
This decision is added to that of the Attorney General’s Office a few hours ago required the General Director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), Carlos Carrillo, to report the structural and stability conditions of the dam after the break that occurred on May 6, 2024.

What is La Mojana?
Considered as a strategic ecosystem, the subregion of La Mojana covers 800 kilometers of natural channels and 80,000 hectares of swamps. In this region the waters of the Magdalena, Cauca and San Jorge rivers are contained and filtered. Added to this is the food security and ecological wealth that this area has. Precisely, in the balance of livelihoods, such as livestock, agriculture and fishing, a possible structural solution to the problem is found.
