Countdown, Prime Video’s upcoming thriller series starring Jensen Ackles has cast its female lead. After several notable supporting and guest roles on shows like Big Sky, The Winchesters, The Boys and Tracker, Ackles is set for his first leading role since the end of Supernatural in November 2020. The upcoming project has now revealed a new addition to the cast.
Deadline reports that Jessica Camacho has been cast as the female lead of Countdown. Camacho, known for her role as Gypsy/Cynthia Reynolds in The CW’s superhero adaptation The Flash is the latest performer to join the high-profile drama.
Camacho joins crime thriller about brazen murder
The countdown follows a suspicious murder in broad daylight. That leads Los Angeles police officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) to be recruited into a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. However, as the truth of a more sinister plot becomes clearer, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions. The first installment will consist of 13 episodes.
Camacho, who also appeared in Bosch: Legacy and Gossip Girlwill play Amber Oliveras. Oliveras, a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, has held the position for 14 years. She has been undercover in multiple operations and is described as a character who takes no nonsense from anyone. Oliveras is intrigued by the new team, but considers it a change of pace.
Countdown is created by Derek Haas, who created the One Chicago franchise for NBC. The thriller marks Haas’s first television project since he left Wolf Entertainment in November 2022, leaving him as co-showrunner of Wolf Entertainment’s FBI: International, which airs on CBS, and his role as executive producer on Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD. Given the conceit of the task force at the center of the story, more additions to the cast should be expected in the coming weeks and months. Amazon has not yet scheduled a release date for Countdown by Jensen Ackles. However, there are rumors that he will return for season 4 of The Boyswhich premieres on Prime Video on June 13.
