It was one of the most popular series in Spain and, even today, a decade after its end, it is still present. Aida, released in 2004, enjoyed nine years on the air, which translated into 238 episodes. Throughout the seasons, we met actors who have become prominent personalities in their guild, such as Paco Leon, Eduardo Casanova or Ana Polvorosa. It also served to strengthen Carmen Machi, theoretical protagonist of the series, but who ended up leaving it in the sixth season.

Aidaavailable on Amazon Prime Video and Tivify, was the sequel to 7 lives, also created by Nacho G. Velilla. Her fame was such that she inspired two versions in Latin America: one, in Ecuador; and another, in Chile. The followers of this series said goodbye to Aida on June 8, 2014. However, it is possible that this goodbye may not be final: just ten years later, the hard core of the sitcom has reunited to give hopeful news to its devotees. Aida could come backand they just need to want it.

Will ‘Aida’ return?

“Today it’s been 10 years since it ended Aida“, he begins by saying Paco Leon in a video uploaded to Instagram. Surrounding him is the bulk of the series’ cast, from Eduardo Casanova (now director and with a film pending release) to David Castillo. “We’re thinking that we should do something, right?”, continues Paco León, who, demonstrating his talents as a filmmaker, never lets go of his cell phone.

From here, the members of Aida They launch into suggestions: “A microtheater?” Casanova proposes. “A podcast,” answers Juan José ‘Canco’ Rodríguez, and this idea, for a few seconds, seems to gel. “And a musical on Gran Vía?”, occurs to Paco León.

Little by little, the options are becoming more realistic: a movie, a special episode… “The important thing is not if we want it,” says Casanova, “the important thing is if you want it.” Pointing to the audience on the other side of the screen, Casanova thus places the ball in the audience’s court.

They, the cast, are willing: Everyone would like to “do something” to commemorate these ten years without Aida. But what about Aida herself? Has Carmen Machi spoken about it? Well yes: even if she is not in the room where the advertisement is filmed, Machi, like Viyuela, has added a video showing her total willingness. Now, it’s up to the public to give their opinion: at the moment, there are more than 12 thousand likes on the publication.
