The road accident occurred on Sunday night and the bus was on the way to Sorochuco, having left from Celendín. This last town announced a two-day mourning through an official statement.
“Information is being collected because the accident occurred at night on a fairly rugged road, with trails, where the bus fell into an abyss towards the river“, declared the provincial prosecutor of Cajamarca, Olga Bobadilla, on the radio RPP.
The number of deaths and injuries in the accident was provided by Alexander Uriarte, commissioner of Celendín, on the television channel Canal N. The driver of the vehicle survived and received medical attention.
The specific reasons for the accident are still being investigated. The head of communications of the municipality of Celendín, Jaime Herrera, announced that the bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Sorochuco medical center. Two of the victims died in the hospital.
