The movement of Bolivian cargo for him Peruvian port of Matarani grew nearly 600% in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2023, rising from 9,105 tons

“In the first quarter of 2023 we have only moved 9,105 tons through the port of Matarani, however this 2024, in these first three months, from January to March, we have moved 62,624 tons, this shows a growth of nearly 600 percent” , he explained, according to the ABI agency.

Justiniano explained that the figures reveal that the shippers see Matarani as a “very important” port for the movement of import and export cargo.

Iron, metals, bovines, plates, tubes and metal structures that come from China pass through Matarani to reach Bolivia.

The good service at the port for loose cargo and the provision of adequate machinery make Bolivian importers and exporters see Matarani as an alternative port to the Chilean ones, the official described.

“On the other hand, ASP-B makes arrangements for rate discounts and additional discounts for important cargo movement, so that it is an incentive with the certainty that a certain cost will be charged,” he added.
