The Russian Army has conquered five towns in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv in the framework of offensive actions carried out in that direction, and another, in Donetsk, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported this Saturday (05/11/2024) in its daily part. These are the towns of Borysivka, Ogurtsovo, Pletenivka, Pylna and Strilecha, they added in Defense.

The towns, located near the border between Russia and Ukraine, were “liberated” by units of the ‘Sever’ (North) group of the Russian Army, the official statement said. The enemy lost more than 170 men in one day in that direction, according to the Russian military report.

The sixth town conquered in the last 24 hours is Keramik, in the Donetsk region, where Ukraine would have lost up to 390 soldiers in one day. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Friday a Russian attempt to open a new front in Kharkiv, with “intense fighting on the front line” and added that Ukrainian forces were able to repel it “with artillery fire.”

Ukraine has evacuated nearly two thousand civilians in the face of the Russian advance. Several groups of residents were seen in vans and cars with as many suitcases as they could, at an arrival point for evacuees outside the city of Kharkiv. Evacuees, many of them elderly, registered and received food and medical assistance in tents. These are the latest Russian advances against Ukrainian troops outnumbered in men and firepower.
