Middle East celebrates court ruling against war in Gaza

In the last few hours, numerous governments in the region celebrated the ruling handed down by the ICJ, as did many people on social networks.

In this regard, the secretary general of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, warned of the consequences of failing to comply with that order, although the Army continued its operations in the city this Saturday.

The ruling confirms the international consensus on the rejection of the aggression against Gaza, the need for a ceasefire and the immediate entry of a greater volume of humanitarian aid, he noted.

Egypt also supported the measure and emphasized that Israel bears full legal responsibility for the deterioration of humanitarian conditions in that coastal enclave.

The UN Security Council must assume its legal responsibilities to end the humanitarian catastrophe there, he estimated.

For its part, the Saudi Foreign Ministry affirmed that the ICJ ruling is a positive step “towards the moral and legal right of the Palestinian people” in accordance with international law.

Sufyan Al-Qudah, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, spoke in a similar vein, stating that the verdict represents the will of the world.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates demanded an immediate ceasefire, more aid for Gazans and to stop the escalation of violence in the occupied territories.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry welcomed the court’s decision and called on Israel to commit “fully to implementing all the provisions of the resolution.”
