“I am pleased to announce that the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will address a joint meeting of the Congress on July 24,” says the announcement, made by the president of the federal House of Representatives, Michael Johnsonand the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell.

“We look forward to hearing the Israeli government’s vision to defend democracy, combat terrorism and establish a just and lasting peace in the region,” The joint statement from Johnson and Mitchell further indicates.

The leadership of United States Congress invited last Friday to Netanyahu to give a speech before both chambers to talk about the “defense of democracy” and the “combat against terrorism.”

Republican and Democratic leaders Senate and the House of Representatives they sent a letter Netanyahu in which they asked him to intervene in the Congress to set out the Israeli Government’s vision on how to “establish a just and lasting peace in the region.”

Netanyahu will speak before a divided Congress and amid criticism that the American executive has received from civil society and human rights organizations for their unconditional support to Israel in his war against Loopwhich has claimed the lives of thousands of people.

“I am excited by the privilege of representing Israel before both houses of Congress and of presenting the truth about our just war against those who seek our lives to representatives of the American people and around the world,” the Israeli prime minister said in a brief statement after the invitation extended by the cameras.

According to his office, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to address both chambers of the US Congress for the fourth time.

For its part, Schumerhighest-ranking Jew in USArecalled that he has “clear and deep disagreements with the prime minister, which I have expressed both privately and publicly and will continue to do so.”

But, he added, “because the United States’ relationship with Israel is strong and transcends a single person or the prime minister, I joined the request for him to speak.”
