Haiti’s new prime minister takes office

The inauguration of the prime minister took place one day after the publication of the decree appointing the cabinet in the official gazette.

The new Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Conille, took office this Wednesday along with his cabinet in an event held in Port-au-Prince (capital).

The inauguration of the prime minister took place a day after the publication of the cabinet appointment decree in the official newspaper, Le Moniteur.

At the ceremony, both Conille and the president of the Presidential Transition Council, Edgard Leblanc Fils, expressed their commitment to holding honest, democratic and credible elections in the country.

In addition, they expressed their willingness to establish the necessary institutions and restore a climate of peace in the nation.

The Government will be made up of 18 portfolios and will have 14 ministers, some of them will hold two positions, including four women.

The prime minister will also head the Interior and Territorial Communities entity; Likewise, Carlos Hércule is the Minister of Justice and Public Security; Dominique Dupuy will direct the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs and the portfolio of Haitians Living Abroad; Ketleen Florestal will lead Economy and Finance, while Jean Marc Berthier will be in the Defense portfolio.

Conille was appointed to the position at the end of last May. He already served as Prime Minister of Haiti between 2011 and 2012; and since 2023 he was in the regional directorate of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for Latin America and the Caribbean.
