On the afternoon of this Monday, June 17, two young people who work in the campaign command of Maria Corina Machado
in Caracas, they were intercepted by police officials when they went out to buy lunch near the place, and were taken to the Helicoide headquarters, the prison where most of the political prisoners are held.

María Corina Machado described this fact as another example of the criminalization of the campaign and the electoral route for the presidential elections on July 28.

“They are Gabriel González and Javier Cisneros, very loved young people in this house, whose only dedication is for the freedom of the country and for giving a future to other young people. like them (…) I want to tell you that today we have more strength and more reasons to continue,” said María Corina Machado.

These last detainees would be linked to a file in which they would be accused of instigating hatred and association to commit a crime, “for the simple fact of accompanying our candidate Edmundo González in an activity in Vargas state.”

María Corina Machado insisted that these latest actions “are the terror of a regime that knows it has lost all support and all respect.”

So far this year, there are already 37 political and social leaders detained by the State security forces. 10 of them directly linked to María Corina Machado’s campaign command, 4 from other parties and 6 refugees in the Argentine embassy in Caracas.

For his part, the presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez
Urrutia insisted that all the arrests are a clear violation of the Barbados agreement and the attempt to create an environment hostile to the elections “before the formal start of the campaign.”

He added that this “new attack by the Government” will be denounced before all international bodies. that correspond.
