“President Noboa’s numbers in popularity and voting intention cause so much fear to the anti-government political group in the Assembly that they have now even planned to disqualify him politically by inventing and republishing the ‘old reliable’ of mental incapacity,” Torres wrote in its count of X, in reference to the measure that appears in the Constitution and that was already applied in 1997.

In that year, Parliament dismissed the populist president Abdalá Bucaram for “mental incapacity to govern,” without a medical examination or the right to defense.

Torres added that the legislative opposition “no longer knows what else to do to remove him (Noboa from power).”

“They have not managed to position a single candidate a few months before the election and that is why they are now radicalizing the ‘everyone against Noboa’,” said the vice minister, referring to the 2025 presidential elections, in which Noboa is also expected to participate and seek his re-election.

“Until the Citizen revolution (political group led by former president Rafael Correa) that has 20% (of popular support) is losing its political meaning, not to mention the rest of the stores that have marginal and millimetric electoral options,” he added.

And he pointed out that “in the hallways there are already assembly members who air medical reports with any nonsense just to hit Noboa and the Government.”

For Torres, the change in the agenda promoted this Thursday by Correismo regarding “the opinion and perception of a journalist” in the magazine The New Yorker “point there.”

The magazine published the journalist’s article on Monday Jon Lee Anderson in which Noboa considers that the Latin American president with whom he feels most aligned is the Brazilian Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silvawhile he sees the Colombian Gustavo Petro as “a leftist snob”, to the Salvadoran Nayib Bukele as “arrogant” and the Argentinian Javier Milei “lost”.

The journalist also pointed out throughout his article that some of his advisors maintain that Noboa would be on the autism spectrumwhile he was also a witness during a trip with the head of state about his idea of studying the possibility of building a prison in Antarctica and about the alleged intention of hitmen to kill him.

The Secretary General of the National Assembly, Alejandro Muñozclarified in his account of

For her part, the first vice president of the Assembly, Viviana Veloz, of Revolución Ciudadana, clarified that the Legislature does not seek to declare the president incapacitated and “declare him crazy,” as pointed out by official legislator Valentina Centeno.

Veloz anticipated that the Legislative Administration Commission (CAL) will be consulted about the appropriateness of a disciplinary sanction against Centeno.

“There is no such action of wanting to declare a mental inability as they now try to make the Ecuadorian population believe,” Veloz stressed, considering that this is “one of the many distractions that the Government invents every week so that citizens stop talking. of important issues, such as insecurity, lack of medicines,” among others.
