The General Directorate of Civil Protection decreed an orange alert nationwide this Saturday after a week of intense rains that claimed the lives of 19 people.

This measure annulled the alert of Thursday, June 20, when the intensity of the temporary rains, which began on Friday, June 14, decreased.

Civil Protection explained that the reduction in the alert is based on the report of threats, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).

According to that report, tropical depression Alberto dissipated over Mexico after affecting Central America, where it left a trail of damage to infrastructure and crops, in addition to causing the death of 27 people.

The so-called Little Thumb of the Americas began a difficult stage of recovery under the State of National Emergency decreed by the Legislative Assembly at the request of the government.

To contribute to the recovery of damages, the country already received donations from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) of 250 thousand dollars and from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), which approved a donation of one million dollars.

Other entities and Salvadorans abroad began to send donations and help to face the damage caused by the storm.

According to CABEI, the financial support will facilitate the purchase of food, water, medical care, as well as basic necessities and shelter for people who need it.

El Salvador has been in a national emergency since Sunday, June 16 due to the presence of temporary rains. The situation caused, until this Saturday, nearly five thousand shelters, 19 people dead, one missing, fallen trees, damaged houses, and 26 river overflows, among others.
