With maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, Tropical Storm Beryl formed today in the central Atlantic, the second system of the current hurricane season, reported the National Hurricane Center (CNH) of the United States.

Located 1,785 kilometers from Barbados, it is moving at 30 kilometers per hour and a rapid movement towards the west and west-northwest is expected during the next few days, the report said.

The NHC says the system is forecast to move across the Windward Islands on Sunday night and Monday.

It also predicts constant strengthening and the possibility of becoming a hurricane in a couple of days. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 75 kilometers from the center.

The current Atlantic and Caribbean hurricane season, which started on June 1 and runs until November 30, is classified by meteorologists as very active.

The first tropical storm of 2024, named Alberto, had a short-lived development in the western Caribbean Sea.
