“I always really liked miniatures and when I lost my job this came up. Everything that happened was very difficult for the artist and I wanted to start seeing what I could do with wood. That’s how I started to experiment, to investigate,” said La Negra. .

This is how the first automatons came out, which at first were almost all kittens because the artist is a lover of this animal. Now they are chickens, fish, turtles, giraffes, mice and robots. Called “Cuckoos“and as soon as they came out almost most of them were sold.

“They are called Cucos because they take me back to childhood, they are not perfect animals, they are not realistic,” described the set designer.

The Cuckoos are made with wood, wires, screws, nuts, fabrics and leather. “They are to play but from a more adult place, for me it is a fantastic world that I had in my head, it is where I have them first and then I transfer them to wood,” Lorena revealed.

The cheapest of the “Cucos” costs about $6 thousand pesos and depending on the complexity or the materials used, they can cost a little more like $8 thousand. “The Hummingbird is one of the favorites and the most expensive because I worked with leather,” said the artist.

The venture that began a month ago playing and jumped from the head of “La Negra” to the wood, quickly sold out its first figures. The first “Cuckoos” he made have already been sold and now there are several more in the works. “It depends on what they ask of me, but in general I can spend one or two whole days sitting here in the workshop until I finish one,” she said.

The ability to create entire worlds with your hands comes from “La Negra”‘s family where there are several artisans. “My whole family likes art, we have always done things with our hands,” he said.

She confesses that when she started she wanted to make something that takes her back to childhood, to “manual and more traditional games.” Today, the world of the “Cucos” invades the house of “La Negra” and several artist friends who were her first clients.
