The bullfighters Arturo Macías López, 40, and José Guadalupe Adame, 34, have suffered serious gorings during the San Marcos National Fair that is being held these days in the city of Aguascalientes. Despite the impressive images that have emerged from the moment of the accident, the first reports on their state of health ensure that both are out of danger. Macías suffered a goring in his right armpit this Saturday that tore the muscles of that part of his body, for which he underwent emergency surgery at the Mac Sur hospital. Adame, who is commonly known by the name of Joselitosuffered a goring on Monday in the upper part of the left thigh that has not caused serious damage to the bullfighter, according to specialized media.

The videos and images that have emerged of the accident were shocking. The bull’s charge launched Joselito at least three meters above the ground. Upon falling, the bullfighter was left unconscious and at the mercy of the animal, which attacked him two more times before the banderilleros arrived. These distracted the bull with their pink capes while a group of toilets took the bullfighter off to the infirmary. His representative, Juan Carlos López, informed the newspaper mundotoro that Joselito had a “clean and small” goring in the left calf, which does not report seriousness, and a more impressive one in the mouth, which has not affected important organs either.

“It scared all of us, because at first we thought the bull had hit him in the neck. There was little left”, said the representative at the exit of the Mac Sur hospital. After regaining consciousness in the campus infirmary, Joselito I wanted to get out there again. “She surprised us when she insisted on going out to kill the bull. It was impossible for a man who arrived unconscious to wake up knowing where he was and that there was a bull that had to be killed, ”López told the media. “When he got up, he realized how weak he was, but he still wanted to go out and thank the public and calm down.” Moments later, the famous bullfighter came out on his own feet to thank the stands and to calm speculation about his state of health.

Arturo Macías López, the other injured person, suffered a goring to the right armpit on Saturday, April 29, which affected his lung and for which he is in intensive care. “Today very sore, it has been a sad and difficult day. It hurts to breathe, talk or move. Thank you for the messages of support from him! ”, The bullfighter has expressed on his social networks. The photos show the bullfighter with his eyes closed in a hospital bed in Aguascalientes, connected to various tubes and cables that constantly monitor his state of health.

The accidents have temporarily overshadowed the celebration of the San Marcos Fair, a historic event that dates back to 1828, when producers and buyers of crops and livestock met in Aguascalientes to trade. Over the years, more festive and less business elements were added until the fair was turned into a great party through which alcohol, food and bulls run. Nor has it lost its traditional character. One of the most important activities is the Livestock Exhibition, which brings together farmers from all over the country. Despite the accidents, the Fair continues its course, with new bullfights starting next Thursday in a bullring that stands as one of the most important in Mexico, after the suspension of bullfighting activities in Mexico City, the other great capital of bullfighting in the country.
