He Museum of Memory will present the exhibition «Coordinates for a Sensitive Map. Artistic dialogues on Memory and Heritage of the Pedagogical Institute«, which will be available from May 8 to July 29.

This exhibition, financed by the National Fondart 2023, explores the rich history and heritage of the former Pedagogical Institute, now Metropolitan University of Education Sciences (UMCE)through the works of six visual artists who graduated from the institution.

The exhibition seeks to provide a space where the public can connect emotionally and cognitively with the legacy of the Institute.

Using a variety of artistic mediums such as painting, photography, and mixed media, artists present a contemporary interpretation of the campus as a “sensitive and relational space.”

The works range from oil and acrylic painting to ceramic assemblages and modeling, reflecting not only the varied techniques but also the diversity of topics addressedfrom political resistance to the flora of the Doctor Johow Botanical Garden.

Each piece is a testament to the Institute’s lasting influence in their respective fields and their impact on the training of generations of educators and activists.

María Fernanda García, executive director of the Museum, emphasized the meaning of hosting this exhibition as an act of recognition and reparation towards the generations that fought for democracy during the dictatorship.

According to García, the exhibition not only celebrates the contributions of Institute alumni in the field of education, but also highlights their crucial role in important social movements.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on May 8 at 12:30 PM in the CEDOC Hall of the Museum of Memorylocated in the vibrant Yungay neighborhoodwith free entry for all visitors.
