In the heart of Calle Fallas, Desamparados, lies a hidden treasure for many; but an icon for the local community: Guillermo Solís, known as Don Memo, has forged his legacy as the people’s artist, despite lacking formal recognition and conventional academic training.

At 65 years old, this pensioner, without children or wife, has become the soul of the community thanks to his innate talent for sculpt animal figures. Although he never learned to read or write, his art speaks for itself, capturing the essence of nature with each work he creates.

More than two decades ago, Don Memo began his altruistic work decorating the community park. Over the years, has given life to more than 40 animal figures, turning the place into what is now known as “the Animal Park”, a tribute to their tireless dedication and creativity.

The most admirable thing about his work is that Solís works without help, investing endless hours of effort and love in every detail of his creations. With modesty, requests the support of the Municipality of Desamparados and the neighbors to provide the necessary materials and thus continue beautifying your beloved park.

His story is a moving reminder that art knows no barriers or limitations. Guillermo Solís, the artist from Calle Fallas de Desamparados, teaches us that true greatness lies in the passion, creativity and generosity we dedicate to what we love.
