The organization highlights Dalí’s drawing as an “irreverent ode” to the Italian master and an “enigmatic comment on the Catholic Church,” since the surrealist artist transforms the Virgin’s nose into a Corinthian-style column.

The list also includes Woman with blue bow of maneta portrait painted with the dry pastel technique, which is considered a minority and “forgotten” in the impressionist’s career, and in this case unusual for its execution on canvas and not paper, where the edges are unfinished.

Another piece is a copper and steel wire necklace with spiral elements of Calderfamous for his colored mobiles but also involved in jewelry, and which he made for the artist Margaret Sargent McKeanfor which he made two wire portraits of his daughters with the same materials.

TEFAF, which celebrates 10 years in New York, is a young fair compared to the original in Maastricht, which has turned 35, but it shares the same exacting standards and has positioned itself as one of the main conventions for modern and contemporary art.

According to a Bank of America study published this month, the art market contracted in 2023 and is now “in search of equilibrium,” with buyers expecting lower prices at auctions and galleries, and sellers waiting. for demand to recover.
