The General Hospital of Segovia will become a new exhibition space for the work of the Turegan artist Esteban Vicente due to the agreement sealed between the Consortium of the Museum of Contemporary Art ‘Esteban Vicente’ and the Health Care Management of Segovia, by which two areas of the Care Complex will host, starting next Monday, June 10, a total of 26 works belonging to the Museum’s permanent collection.

Under the title ‘Color is life. Esteban Vicente’s universe of color’, aim to “improve, through art, the comprehensive care of the patient, family and healthcare personnel, at the same time as making known the artist’s work and the important cultural work he carries out.” out the Museum”, as explained by the president of the Esteban Vicente Museum of Contemporary Art Consortium, Miguel Ángel de Vicente.

The action, framed in the commemorative activities of the half century of founding of the General Hospital of Segovia, constitutes, in the same way, a way to establish “emotional” links, certifying, as de Vicente stated, “that art and states of mind “They are related and that the life and positivism that comes from the color of Esteban Vicente’s work can contribute to improving the passage or stay of patients in the healthcare complex.”

Likewise, the Management also seeks to echo the line of study opened by the WHO in 2019 about the links between art, health and well-being and the fact that the former can offer a new dimension added to the improvement of health, reducing stress and anxiety and allowing the hospital experience to be improved.

In this way, as established in the agreement signed today, the space will be divided into red, yellow, blue, green, orange and pink sections, where works with these tones will be reproduced, accompanied by a series of texts about feelings and emotions associated with each of the colors, the benefit that contemplation of the canvases can bring and an explanation of the artist’s works related to that range.

Exhibition in the Museum

As far as the Museum is concerned, and in relation to said project, its rooms two and three will exhibit, at least until mid-September, the selected original works, with the aim that, once the reproductions are “discovered” in the Hospital, Patients can contemplate “the beauty and color of authentic paintings” in the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The director of the museum space, Ana Doldán, also present at the signing, reinforced the idea that Esteban Vicente “did not record what he saw, but rather what what he saw made him feel” and that the palette used by the artist in each of his paintings, especially those that made him part of the first New York generation of Abstract Expressionism, “invites meditation and reflection, generating an emotional response in the subconscious” something that “can benefit anyone.” and makes the project created an initiative “suitable for the well-being of the people of Segovia.”
