Living in many cities has become a dystopia come true due to the prices of both rent and property ownership. The Norwegian series approaches this phenomenon Architect, directed by Kerren Lumer-Klabbers and written by Nora Landsrød and Kristian Kilde. With only four episodes of just 20 minutes each, the drama has become one of the most talked about television productions of the past year. Now it arrives at the cinema studio of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, with a free screening followed by debate this Monday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Arkitekten, in its original title, follows Julie (Eili Harboe), an architect who works as an intern for a large studio. They pay her a salary that she cannot afford to pay for a rent that has just been raised, her bank has repeatedly denied her a mortgage loan and access to a home worthy of her seems unaffordable. For all this, she is forced to live underground, in a parking lot, between two curtains and surrounded by stripes of white paint. A space for which she also does not escape paying a loan shark. When a project to build a thousand apartments in Oslo goes out to tender, Julie has an idea: convert empty underground parking lots into residential buildings.

The pass in the Círculo has been organized thanks to the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM). The patron of the COAM Architecture Foundation, Jesús San Vicente, will moderate a debate after the last chapter of a fiction that won the Best Series award at last year’s Berlin Festival.

Alexia Maniega, general secretary of the Union of Architects, will also participate; José María Echarte, professor of Architectural Projects at the Rey Juan Carlos University; Raquel Rodríguez, professor of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid; Mauro Bravo, co-director of the Mármol Bravo studio and Catherine Tamayo, architect and member of the Madrid Tenants Union. In the round table they will address the problems in access to housing, with special emphasis on the young population, or job insecurity both at a general level and in the architecture sector.
