‘Let her run’, the free exhibition that portrays the happiness of women enjoying the water

Four years ago, Helena started collecting photographs at the Rastro every weekend. And what she started as just another hobby ended up becoming almost an obsession that has crystallized in this beautiful exhibition. “At first I didn’t know what I wanted and I bought what caught my eye at that moment: cropped photos, couples in love, apparently happy families. However, Sunday after Sunday I found myself always asking for the same thing: I wanted women in the water“, Explain.

‘Let her run’ is an anthology of images that reflect the happiness, freedom, sisterhood and fun of dozens of women on beaches, swimming pools, fountains and lakes. Accompanied by friends, family and even strangers, each snapshot captures a moment frozen in time, a memory borrowed and used to create a very personal and cathartic exhibition that has also helped the artist reconcile with her mother’s life. “I look for her in all these photographs.”

“My mother has a special relationship with the sea. She separated from my father in the summer and did it on the beach. In part, I think it was frozen there, in that place, in that year. We believe that this was when its consumption became more notable,” analyzes Helena Alarcón, who is debuting her first exhibition, although it will surely not be the last.
