The sculpture “A Familia” by artist Manuel Buciños has suffered constant vandalism. In April 2022, some Portuguese tourists caused serious damage to it, which led to a court case for criminal damage and forced the author to re-sculpt the stolen pieces so that this work could once again shine in Vigo, specifically on Vía Norte. Eleven months after the act of vandalism, in March 2023, the work was complete again. But it did not last long that way. In December, vandalism once again took its toll on it as the figure of the girl disappeared, having been torn from its location.

This is how the work continues. The older they are, the mother’s arm is also missing. Municipal sources confirmed that they have already contacted the sculptor to restore it back to its original state. Like “A Familia”, the iconic figure of the historic newspaper delivery man Manuel Castro de Príncipe was the victim of constant attacks. Also the work dedicated to Jules Verne or, in 2011, the sculpture of the Praza de España horses.
