The urban artist Resaks has been selected to carry out the “1 Kilometer of Art” intervention during this year 2024 with the work “Cromatismo del Camino”. The manager of Fundación Caja Rioja, Carlos Fuentes, and the mayor of Ventosa, Ricardo Velasco, presented it this Friday together with the head of its artistic team, Belén Canoura. The project has been selected from among the 14 proposals that participated in the competition this year.

The “Chromaticism of the Camino” project seeks to enrich the journey of pilgrims as they pass through the town of Ventosa, creating a contemporary work that dialogues with history and becomes part of the visual and spiritual narrative of the Camino de Santiago. To do this, Resaks proposes the installation of “a contemporary stained glass window of about eight square meters that will act as a visual and emotional milestone in the pilgrims’ journey, integrating the contemporary with the classic and the emerging art of this century with the traditional of the Camino of Santiago, respecting tradition while updating it,” in the words of Belén Canoura.

The work, which will be installed on the variant of the Camino de Santiago towards Ventosa along with those of José Carlos Balanza and Beatriz Carbonell, seeks to capture the fusion between urban art and the rural essence of Ventosa. This work is also intended to be dynamic; depending on the light it receives throughout the day, it will be seen in different ways.

Resarks, who has a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, describes himself as a creative and multidisciplinary person, who has participated in different art festivals, graffiti and urban art workshops, and has created numerous works in different places. He also manages artistic projects and disseminates them through social networks, where his followers number in the millions.

The artist will hold several participatory meetings with the Ventosa neighbourhood; this afternoon, starting at 7:00 pm, will be the first one; later, he will hold two workshops in the Riojan town; the work will be installed during the autumn months.

‘1 Kilometer of Art’ is a proposal in which renowned artists work together with the Ventosa neighborhood and pilgrims who are walking the Camino to Santiago and which consists of developing interventions that transfer art to the natural environment.
