A group of students in their final year of the Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering degree from the National University of Salta (UNSa) made an enriching visit to the Xibi Xibi and Chijra river basin. Accompanied by teachers and thesis students from the same career, the students were received by the Secretary of Planning and Environment of the Municipality, Adriana Díaz, along with her technical team specialized in the Early Warning Service.
The day began with a detailed presentation given by Secretary Díaz, who explained the operation of the Early Warning system installed by the Municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy in the Xibi Xibi and Chijra rivers. This system, crucial for flood prevention, not only helps mitigate risks, but also contributes to the historical record of meteorological data, essential for environmental planning and scientific research.
During this first stage, students had the opportunity to understand the importance and impact of this system in environmental management. The presentation highlighted how continuous monitoring and data analysis can influence decision-making for watershed protection.
The second part of the visit consisted of a tour of the meteorological stations located on both rivers. There, students and thesis students applied their theoretical knowledge in practice, using measuring instruments to determine water flows, analyze the granulometric curve and study macros and microorganisms present in rivers. These activities not only reinforced their academic training, but also allowed them to experience firsthand the challenges and importance of field work in environmental engineering.
At the end of the intense day, the students returned to the province of Salta, taking with them valuable learning and experiences that will enrich their professional training.
