Giant books take to the streets of Madrid again

After the celebration of Book Day, on April 23, the love for literature is still present with the celebration of the Antique and Second-hand Book Fair, which fills Recoletos with booths. And the next essential event for readers will be the Book Fair, which will return to Retiro on May 31. But between one fair and another another initiative returns to the streets of Madrid that leaves no one indifferent, ‘Sit down and read’the giant book exhibition that spans the city.

Of the May 23 to June 23 Madrid residents and visitors to the capital will encounter benches shaped like huge books. Titles that stand out for being an indispensable success in the history of literature or latest news that sweep the public or that are essential to know. Among them there will be national and international authors and publications of all types of literary genres. One of those books in which the public can sit (and also download with a QR code) is the Madrid recipe book recently published by the City Council.

Penguin Random House

Last year the initiative featured titles by authors such as Javier Castillo, Albert Espinosa, Juan Gómez Jurado, Francisco Ibáñez, Juan José Millás, Kate Morton, Ana Punset and the international JK Rowling. The exhibition ‘Sit down to read’, developed by the Madrid City Council in collaboration with other companies, is designed to promote reading and also support the events around the world of books that are held these months, as well as inviting the public to buy their next readings at the local bookstores.
