The anticipated Buenos Aires Book Fair is ready to dazzle lovers of literature and culture starting Thursday, April 25. However, this year presents a special sparkle with the prominent presence of Lisbon as Guest City of Honor, coinciding with the significant 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, which marked the end of decades of dictatorship.

The organizers, after two years of hard work to bring Lisbon as a guest of honor, could not have imagined a more poetic coincidence: the opening of the exhibition coincides with the commemoration of this historic milestone for Portugal.

Although the main figures, such as Mayor Carlos Moedas and Secretary of Culture Diogo Moura, will not be present on the day of the inauguration, their arrival is expected in the following days to join this vibrant celebration.

Lisbon brings with it a diverse cultural program that is not limited only to the Fair and literature. From the emblematic Usina del Arte to the National Library, passing through the Library of Congress, the Portuguese city will display a wide range of cultural activities that cover music, cinema and the arts.

The program, meticulously curated by writer Carla Quevedo, seeks not only to showcase the best of Lisbon culture, but also to foster an enriching dialogue with Argentine exponents in various disciplines.

From literary debates between Portuguese and Argentine authors to concerts exploring Lisbon’s musical wealth, the Fair promises to be a cultural feast for all attendees. Prominent musicians such as Rodrigo Leão and Ana Lua Caiano will provide their talent to enrich the visitors’ experience.

Additionally, the visual arts will feature prominently, with illustrations exploring the links between Lisbon and Buenos Aires, as well as exhibitions of artists’ books and photographs celebrating the rich shared cultural heritage.

The Buenos Aires Book Fair 2024, with the light of Lisbon as a guide, promises to be an unforgettable event that celebrates the diversity and cultural exchange between two sister cities on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
