  • Within the framework of the Provincial Reading Plan program, literary material was delivered to 700 early education institutions and daycare centers.
  • Kindergarten teachers, Miguel Angel Zavala Ortiz, highlighted how important it is to receive reading material for the literacy of three-year-old classroom children.

The Government of Córdoba began an innovative process in educational policies focused on the development of schooling in three-year-old boys and girls. An initiative promoted by Governor Martín Llaryora with the intention of encouraging literacy at an early age.

To enhance this progress in the province’s three-year classroom, the Ministry of Education delivered 10,000 books to 700 early education institutions and daycare centers.

In this way, the provincial government makes available an enormous amount of books in rooms of three, four, five, provincial, municipal and, for the first time in history, privately managed.

Within the framework of the Provincial Reading Plan, literary material was rigorously selected by the technical teams of the educational portfolio. In this sense, the Ministry applies quality criteria to award the best works to children.

“Córdoba is a pioneer in policies to promote reading, and in 1993 it began the first provincial program”highlighted Luciana Trocello, coordinator of the Provincial Reading Plan of Córdoba, dependent on the Undersecretary of Institutional Strengthening of the General Directorate of Educational Welfare, of the Ministry of Education.

“From that time until now, management by management, it has been decided to sustain and deepen the distribution of books in a fundamental action for schools”he deepened.

Likewise, the provincial government has the priority of supporting continuous teacher training, which is why the distribution is accompanied by a training instance, a workshop where content is addressed.

“When the Province distributes a book, it is not distributing furniture, it is granting a complex cultural object, which deserves a study, a didactic approach, training so that the teacher has tools to take on the enormous challenge of training readers from the three years”Trocello added.

Regarding the arrival of specimens, the director of the Miguel Ángel Zavala Ortiz kindergarten, Paula Agote, expressed: “It is very beneficial for the school to receive literary material because they are books that we do not have the possibility of buying. So, the support of the State is always necessary.”

Educational public policy

This public policy is a fundamental piece of the State in educational matters for the lives of girls and boys that provides for the early arrival of reading as an action for quality education.

“You see a lot of progress when they start, in the middle of the year there is a maturation, a change and the family when they cannot believe everything that is worked on at the initial level from three”commented Paula Agote, director of the kindergarten, Miguel Ángel Zavala Ortiz.

“Parents, in meetings, are told that they are no longer babies, once they attend school they begin their school career, they are already students”highlighted the teacher.

As part of this initiative, the Government of Córdoba, starting this year, included the Nurseries of the entire province in the Reading Plan, with training and also with the distribution of books.

In turn, teacher Silvana Charras, from Sala de tres, emphasized the presence of the public school in the delivery of books, since in “Moments of crisis where families cannot buy books, at school they can access them and enjoy them together at home.”

Agote also referred to the role of the garden and exclaimed that “The public school was the only institution left standing to support families and had its doors open in times of crisis.”

Progress in literacy

Another point that education professionals highlight is the marked progress in literacy when the student enters the three-room class.

“We notice a lot, it shows a lot in the vocabulary, in the literacy of the students”said Agote and added: “It is a benefit to start the school career at three years old.”

Within the team of teachers at the Zavala Ortiz Garden, the teacher of Sala de tres, Silvana Charras, highlighted that “It is a commitment to become literate, it is important to train them from the age of 3. and its benefits are that through reading piety they open their imagination and can create their own stories.”

Furthermore, he emphasized that “Reading helps socialize, because they can read to each other and tell each other the stories from the books. When they read to another they feel emotions and it is very important because they develop orality”Charras indicated.
