Javier Milei’s library: what books does the president have on his desk in the Casa Rosada

President Javier Milei chose a handful of books to show in the note with the Time magazine. There, sitting in the Rivadavia Chair, the head of state posed from his desk and showed the cover of seven books that show his ideological map.

1 – “Gaturro 39”, by Nik

President Milei showed one of cartoonist Nik’s comic books. It is not the first time that he appeals to his works, he usually publishes several cartoons of the author to publish on his social networks. Furthermore, he has a clear ideological closeness with Nik, who always appeared on the side of Kirchnerism. The cover has the three stars, in reference to the World Cups that Argentina won.

2 – “The Austrian School, Market and Business Activity”, by Jesús Huerta de Soto

This is a publication by Huerta de Soto, a Spanish economist who represents the ideas of the Austrian school, to which Milei adheres. In several of his speeches and interviews, the head of state usually quotes his reflections.

3 – “Jews and words”, by Amos Oz and Fania Oz-Salzberger.

It is a work by an Israeli novelist and historian that explains “the essential relationship that exists between Jews and words,” as explained on its back cover.

4 – “Advanced, macro-economics. An easy guide”, by Campante, Sturzenegger and Velasco

This work has the particularity of having been created by Federico Sturzenegger, former president of the Central Bank in the first years of Mauricio Macri’s government and one of Javier Milei’s economic advisors. He also claims to have been the author of the mega decree 70/23 and the Law Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines.

5 – “Capitalism, socialism and the neoclassical trap”, by Javier Milei

The book that the president presented on Wednesday night at Luna Park also appears on that desk. This is his last published book where he reviews the strengths of capitalism around the world and compares it to socialism.

6 – “Jerusalem. The biography”, by Simón Sebag Montefiore

The journalist Pablo Blanco highlighted these books in a thread on Twitter and about this publication he noted: “It tells the history of the city in the voice of “kings, politicians, conquerors or prophets, from Solomon to Lawrence of Arabia, Abraham, Jesus, Muhammad , the crusaders, Suleiman the Magnificent or Winston Churchill”

7 – “Milei. The revolution they didn’t see coming”, by Márquez and Duclós

This is the biography of the president that these two authors wrote. On more than one occasion Milei recommended it to her followers to read. Márquez was publicly pointed out for his homophobic statements in an interview he gave on Radio Con Vos when he presented this book.
