The book published by the UPV/EHU, ‘Engineering in Spain. The Birth of an Elite’, has won the award for best monograph in the XXVII edition of the National University Publishing Awards. The election was held on June 17 at the BOE Bookstore.

The jury of the XXVII National University Publishing Awards, made up of recognized experts from the cultural and scientific world, has selected the best works published by Spanish universities and research centers in 2023.

‘Engineers in Spain. The Birth of an Elite’, has been awarded for being a novel work in the historical assessment of the role of technicians in the construction and modernization of the contemporary State in Spain.

“From the Army engineering academies, through powerful State bodies, such as those of Roads and Mines, to the rich activity of industrial engineers, the book tells the story of the birth of a techno-scientific, social and political elite that, since mid-nineteenth century, has deeply marked the history of Spain,” says its synopsis.
