With the participation of the author through the Zoom platform and four renowned actors, on Saturday, June 22 at 2 in the afternoon, the book will be presented at the Kalathos bookstore in Caracas. Poemwith which the Venezuelan Indira Páez won the 25th City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Poetry Prize in 2022 for “her feminine voice of great intensity, with the transmission of a strong aesthetic emotion through the beauty of her images.”
The texts of Poem, which at the time won over more than six hundred participants in the contest organized by the Culture area of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, will be read by Antonio Delli, Francis Romero, Claudia Nieto and Dairo Piñeres. The presentation will be in charge of the cultural promoter Zara Fermín, who wrote the prologue.
Indira Páez began writing poetry from a very young age. In January 2022 she had a reconnection with poetry, when she contracted Covid-19, and she decided to release the poems that she had hidden.
“I came out of the closet and rescued some poems that I had already written, wrote some new ones and dared to send them to this contest and I completely forgot about it,” says Páez. “To my surprise, Alberto Nieto, who is the producer of the event, called me, announcing that he had won. It was a surreal moment, after forty years I feel like a poet, I earned the title. “My teachers would be very proud of me.”
Páez is a writer and playwright, dedicated to writing soap operas and plays. Her works have been staged throughout Latin America, Spain and the United States. She has lived in Miami since January 2008. She won the Municipal Theater Award in Caracas for her work deranged chronicles (2002) and an Emmy Award (2009) as co-writer of the television series Gabriel, immortal love, award given by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of the United States.
