A book was published about the work and thoughts of Horacio González – Diario El Ciudadano y la Región

Compiled by Sebastián Artola (doctor in Political Science, university professor and colleague of Horacio González for ten years in the chair “Argentine and Latin American Political Projects” of the Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at the National University of Rosario), the book brings together articles by friends , colleagues and readers of his work such as Eduardo Rinesi, María Pia López, Alejandro Moreira, Roberto Retamoso, Silvana Carozzi, Eduardo Medina and Juan José Giani.

As can be read in the prologue, “as has been done in multiple ways, in different places and geographies through which Horacio traveled, leaving his mark and sowing affection and friendships, on this occasion a group of friends and companions from the city of Rosario we wanted to make a collective book about his thoughts and life.”

“Horacio’s relationship with Rosario is prolific and distant in time. From his first forays into the city in the 60s as a young activist to his long career as a professor at the National University of Rosario, in the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations (from 1987 to 2013) and in the Faculty of Humanities and Arts (at the School of History, for a shorter period, between 1988 and 1994). Furthermore, Rosario would always be one of his stops obligated when it comes to presenting their books, giving talks wherever they may be, imagining and making massive days of Argentine thought come true, or accompanying one or another political adventure.”

“His sharp irony, his handy humor, the ethics of friendship that he cultivated under a listening that he embraced, the depth, the impossible discoveries and the capacity for invention of his thought, made each conversation, talk or class, a place almost magical and unique that crossed us like an arrow from which it was impossible to escape unscathed; imprinting on each of us a totally new meaning to our ways of thinking, doing, being or reading.”

For Artola, “the book seeks to celebrate the work, thoughts and passage of Horacio González through our lives.” And he maintained: “Horacio was an example of commitment, generosity, critical capacity and intellectual lucidity, which make him, without a doubt, one of the most powerful thinkers in our country.”

“Keeping the flame of your thought lit is a necessary and essential task, I would say, to forge new ideas and practices that allow us to get out of this present and make possible again in the country a popular, egalitarian, democratic and emancipatory collective project, with which Horacio was always committed to.”

The book is made up of eight essays: “The question of the nation in the work of Horacio González” by Eduardo Rinesi, “Writing, that danger” by María Pia López, “For us, Horacio González” by Alejandro Moreira, “The writer of Perón” by Roberto Retamoso, “Horacio González and Rosario, or the memories in lemon ink” by Silvana Carozzi, “What do we do with Horacio’s work” by Eduardo Medina, “Horacio González and dialectical humanism” by Juan José Giani , and “Theory, politics and camaraderie in Horacio González” by Sebastián Artola.
