“El Chacho”: La Rioja began paying salaries with quasi-currencies

These are the Debt Cancellation Bonds (Bocade) that the province called “Chacho”, to remember the leader Ángel Vicente Peñaloza.

In the province of La Rioja, “El Chacho” began to circulate, the quasi-currency with which Governor Ricardo Quintela will pay provincial salaries.

“Given the President’s attitude towards La Rioja, we decided to take measures to mitigate the damage that they intend to inflict on us”the president had warned.

Since January, The province is authorized to issue Debt Cancellation Bonds (Bocade) that will be used as currency at the provincial levelThe first batch of bonds has entered into circulation and will be issued to pay a “minimum percentage of public officials’ salaries.”

The first to count on “Chacho” will be the high officials of the provincial Executive Branch who will receive $100,000 in the quasi-currency as part of their June salary. While general director positions will receive $50,000.

On the other hand, For the rest of the workers, in the month of August the province will make a one-time payment of a bonus of 50 thousand pesos that will be paid in “Chachos”.

The Riojan governor justified the payment with bonuses because the national government “owes La Rioja the co-participable funds” since October of last year, for an amount of more than 80 million dollars. Payment with bonuses seeks to guarantee the payment of salaries and implies an “injection of currency for economic activity through salary increases.”
