The sale of new cars in Colombia decreased again in May of this yearafter having had a slight respite during the previous month.

According to figures from the National Sustainable Mobility Association (Andemos), in the fifth month of the year, 14,828 vehicles of this type were sold. The above implies a reduction of 5.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, when 15,695 new cars took to the streets.

These new data also confirm that the sector maintains a significant decrease, taking into account that, So far this year, it has registered a drop of 7.5%.

What is happening with the sale of cars in Colombia

With this in mind, Colombia completes four out of five months of decline in the sale of new cars so far in 2024.

Now, the union’s report also revealed that only two categories of new cars rebounded in May: these are taxis and SUVs, which increased 9.5% and 2.8%, respectively.

The others were in the red, including cars, tractor-trailers, pick-ups, dump trucks, trucks, buses and minibusesto name a few.

Meanwhile, if the data is analyzed by brand, five of the top 10 decreased. These were some of the best known in Colombia: Toyota, Renault, Chevrolet, Mazda and Suzuki.

While the others increased their sales in May: Kia, Nissan, Volkswagen, Ford and Hyundai.
