100% electric and at the same value as a Ford

With a similar approach to the Maverick, this new pickup was launched in Uruguay to occupy a place among compact pickups but that comes from a combustion engine.

The pick up, At least in this part of the Continent, it began to be not only a work vehicle but rather a more complete offering compared to the old sedans and the onslaught of SUVs. With the passage of time they have forged their robustness but in recent years this has also translated into offering complete equipment, outstanding quality and plenty of power.

Today it is not unreasonable to see a double cab pickup roaming around the city without the need to be muddy and becoming, despite its size, a vehicle to take the kids to school. Due to this acceptance, some brands such as Ford, Chevrolet, Fiat and RAMamong others, began to bet on the light pickup segment.

And this highly valued niche in recent years has been adding more and more representatives of different brands. On this occasion, it is not a general manufacturer, nor is it a market where trucks are a priority: after its preview at the beginning of the year, the Radar RD6 arrived at dealerships in Uruguay.

Radar RD6, a new electric pickup at the price of Ford Maverick

The year was 2022 when a new pick-up of Chinese origin burst onto the market to offer another alternative to the vast segment of compact pick-ups. Less than two years later, the Radar RD6 is now available in the region, a vehicle that no one knew about until today.

Before talking about this pick up with a monocoque body and transmission system 100% electric propulsionIt is worth clarifying that Radar is a brand that belongs to the group Geelya Chinese group that brings together well-known brands such as Lotus, Volvo and Polestar under its wing.

With a body of 5,260mm long1,900 mm wide and 1,830 mm high, while the wheelbase is 3,120 mm, the cargo box has a capacity in volume of 1,200 litersto which is added a small space in the front of 60 liters.

With these dimensions and capabilities, placing this new pickup in a specific segment is perhaps a little complicated because due to its approach it could compete against models such as Ford Maverick either Fiat Torobut it has dimensions that are closer to the trucks in the medium segment, where we find exponents such as Hilux, Amarok and Ranger.

In the Uruguayan market, this pickup called Riddara RD6 is sold in two versions, which differ in equipment and autonomy. The electrical system develops 272 HP and 384 Nm of torque which are sent to the rear wheels, while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is just 7.3 seconds and the declared autonomy varies between 410 and 550 kilometers (battery capacity ranges from 63 to 86 kWh).

Regarding the comfort equipment, both versions of the pick-up incorporate leather upholstery, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, multifunction steering wheel, climate control, 12.3″ central screen, 17″ alloy wheels and aluminum luggage bars. For its part, the most equipped version called Luxury Adds electric passenger seat, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, rain sensor, heated exterior mirrors and two-tone wheels.

In terms of safety, the most accessible version has four airbags, electric handbrake, LED headlights, disc brakes on all four wheels, hill ascent and descent assist, tire pressure monitoring and a reversing camera. Luxury adds curtain airbags, totaling six bags.

According to the Uruguayan representative, the pickup starts the range with the option Standard 410 with single drive at $44,000, while the Luxury 550 is offered at $53,000. To give you an idea, a Ford Maverick Hybrid is offered at no less than $40,000.
