(CNN) — A nationwide AT&T outage left U.S. customers in the dark again on Tuesday.

In a statement to CNN, the company said an issue is preventing many AT&T customers from completing calls between providers. Calls between AT&T customers are still continuing, the company said, although some customers complained on social media that their service was interrupted entirely.

“Suppliers are working as quickly as possible to diagnose and resolve the issue,” a company spokesperson said.

Although AT&T did not share the number of customers affected, the Down Detector website shows an increase in reports of problems using the service starting at 1:00 pm ET. Those numbers increased in the following hours.

The site lists New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis among the cities with the most reports of problems.

AT&T told CNN that 911 calls are being made, even though some locations, including Camden County, Georgia, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, issued alerts on social media that the outage was impacting 911 calls. AT&T told CNN it is investigating why this happened.

The outage comes less than four months after a massive outage that left AT&T’s network without service for nearly 12 hours. In February, tens of thousands of AT&T customers in the United States were unable to make phone calls, send text messages, contact emergency services or access the Internet due to a network outage.

In March, the telecommunications company said it had been hacked in a separate incident and that the stolen data contained information such as account holders’ Social Security numbers.
